Festival Producer
Contracted Position
Salary: $5000*

Working Location: St. John’s, NL. (In-person preferred, but semi-remote option available)
Anticipated Hours: Roughly 200-300 hours (The Producer is expected to budget their hours accordingly to allow thorough dedication during the festival period. The anticipated hours do not represent an hourly rate. Payment is a non-negotiable flat fee.)

The St. John’s Short Play Festival, by St. John’s Shorts Inc., is a festival of independent theatre in St. John’s, Newfoundland. We are a not-for-profit with the goal of creating a low cost opportunity to produce challenging and artistically stimulating theatre in a safe and collaborative environment.
Job Description
St. John's Shorts Inc. is currently hiring a Festival Producer to lead and manage our festival activities in alignment with our vision, mission, and values. This position is a contract-based role based in St. John's, NL, with the festival taking place from September 6th-16th, 2022. The successful candidate will begin working on a casual basis from mid-April, with an increased time commitment expected in the weeks leading up to and during the festival. The Festival Producer will report to the Board of Directors and must be available during the weeks leading up to the festival.
The Festival Producer will be responsible for programming the festival’s schedules and coordinating festival activities between participating artists, the Festival's Technical Director, and the venue, The LSPU Hall. The position requires managing volunteers, working some evenings and weekends, and having a working knowledge of theatre, as well as experience in arts management, leadership, or equivalent. The ideal candidate will also have a history of working collaboratively with other artists.

Responsibilities
The Festival Producer must:
- Oversee the production and execution of events in the designated period leading up to the annual Festival;
- Create a schedule for the festival and corresponding events (ex. Professional development workshops), programming the selected artists in short play festival;
- Listen to and acknowledge guidance from the Board of Directors;
- Support the Publicist(s) and Outreach Director(s) in marketing plans and outreach options, promoting awareness of the festival and its activities;
- Oversee the efficient and effective operation of St. John’s Shorts Inc. and provide leadership for staff, including the Technical Director, Festival Stage Manager, and volunteers;
- Represent the St. John’s Shorts Inc. as a spokesperson and point of contact;
- Establish and maintain working relationships internally and externally, including with supporters, partners, funders, and donors;
- Engage and inspire participants;
- Work in tandem with the Technical Director to coordinate technical aspects of the festival, including tech rehearsals at the LSPU Hall;
- Relay all pertinent festival information to the participating artists and groups in a concise, timely, and welcoming manner;
- Track expenses and revenues in accordance with the budget put forward by the Board of Directors, and provide timely reporting;
- Attend every festival workshop
- Lead the creation of an ArtsNL grant (Community Arts Program) due on Sept 30, 2022, with support from the Board of Directors;
- Other duties, as required.
Requirements
The Festival Producer must demonstrate:
- Experience in leadership and management principles as they relate to nonprofit organizations;
- Sound fiscal management of an organization;
- The ability to meet the goals set forth by the Board of Directors;
- Diplomacy, reliability, honesty and a history of maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and fairness;
- Conflict resolution and communication skills;
- The ability multitask, meet overlapping deadlines and maintain a high degree of accuracy;
- Comfortability with public speaking and engagement with media and stakeholders;
- Flexible on working hours to allow for event and activity attendance, including evenings and weekends.
*The $5000 payment fee is conditional upon successful funding of the festival.
