Selection Process

St. John's Shorts is committed to supporting and creating space for underrepresented artists and groups (production companies or other artist groups).
Successful applicants will be chosen on the basis of a lottery.

Please read the following information carefully.

Our 2020 lottery system has 3 layers*

1) Indigenous artists and/or groups (production companies or other artist groups)
2) Equity-seeking artists and/or groups (production companies or other artist groups)
3) All artists and/or groups (production companies or other artist groups)

If you self-identify as an Indigenous artist or group, your submission will be entered into the Indigenous Artist Lottery. If you are unsuccessful in the Indigenous Artist Lottery, your submission will automatically be entered into the Equity Lottery. (I.e., your submission will have 2 additional chances at being chosen.)

If you self-identify as an equity-seeking artist or group, your submission will be entered into the Equity Lottery. If you are unsuccessful in the Equity Lottery, your submission will automatically be entered into the General Pool. (I.e., your submission will have 1 additional chance at being chosen.)

If you do not self-identify as an Indigenous artist/group or an equity-seeking artist/theatre, your submission will be entered into the General Pool.

***

IMPORTANT NOTE: We ask that artists and groups (production companies or other artist groups) self-identify as Indigenous and/or equity-seeking. If you are applying on behalf of a team, your team must have someone in a core creative position (for example, director, writer, or lead actor) who self-identifies as part of an underrepresented group. (For the purposes of this application, St. John's Shorts considers the following to be underrepresented groups: non-Caucasian races/ethnicities, LGBTQ2SIA+ identities, and deaf and disability-identified artists.)

***

*Due to limitations of time and space, there is a predetermined and finite number of spaces available for each category of the lottery system.
St. John's Shorts is committed to supporting and creating space for underrepresented artists and groups (production companies or other artist groups).
